Slow to open files from explorer

I have an Issue where opening a document (.pdf,.xls.doc.txt etc) from
within explorer (including from desktop, quick launch etc. takes 60-90
seconds

if i open the application and open the document from within the
application it works fine

if i open a cmd box and navigate and open the document it works fine.

anyone out there have any ideas.

It looks like a problem with explorer, File associations are all
correct. I have tried re-registering the applications.so i service
packed from SP1 to Sp2. that did not resolve the issue.

I have also tried this in Safe Mode, with same results

Is this computer at home or work? Is it on a large network?

Hmmmm - I have the same problem.... but only when I am connected to the
company network.... have no answer yet.

I think I found the Solution to your problem, since I had the same...

That's actually an easy one to fix:

start REGEDIT

Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Extension

Now check on the extensions that NO Extension is linked to an application
that is stored on a network drive where you do not have access anymore!

Change the Data field to a local application and the delay is fixed!
