Slow System

Help!

It now takes me 1 to 3 minutes to open anything in my XP Pro. I have
scanned my system with everything under the sun and I'm clean for viruses,
etc.

I have noticed that during this "coffee break", my System Idle Process is at
98% & iType.exe takes up the other 2%. Is this connected? Do I have to get
rid of my MS wireless keyboard & mouse? Do I have to buy a wired combo again?

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Thanks,
Dave

System Idle Process means that your processor is idle. When it's at 98%
that means approximately 98% of your CPU resources are not being used,
so it has nothing to do with your problem.

Open Task Manager to the Processes tab and park it in the corner of your
monitor. When you open "anything" see what process is occupying the
majority of your CPU resources during those 1 to 3 minutes.

My guess: malware infection of a misconfiguration of your software.

I answered too quick. That's exactly where I got the 98%/2% from. Those are
the only 2 processes running at the time. Note that it adds up to 100%

Any other thoughts?

If your processor is not doing anything it couldn't possibly be slowing
your computer. You may have a malware infection or a hardware problem,
or there's more to the story that we don't know about. In either case I
suggest you show your computer to a professional technician.

What is your anti-virus programme? Is it scheduled to do a full scan at
the time you are starting your computer?

How much RAM memory?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System and Application logs in Event Viewer relating to the last boot in
normal mode . No Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate
which also appear in a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.
