Slow system

When I am running IE6, my system slows down. When i
check using Windows Task Manager, it shows that and image
called "system" run by user "System" is usingb 50-70% of
my resources. What is this service? and why is it
slowing down my system?. My specs are Athlon 1060MhZ
with 512MB of RAM

I am encountering some difficulty interpreting your message.

Are you viewing this information on the Processes tab in Task Manager? The
item you are querying is either "System" or "System Idle Process" under the
column "Image Name"? If it is "System Idle Process" then it is not the cause
of the slow performance as it is the difference between the sum of all
running processes and 100%. If it is "System" then it may be worth looking
further. Which is it?

Do you have a Firewall installed? Spyware causes many problems. If not
installed download Adaware and / or
update Reference file
from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ and use it to remove
parasites. If Spyware persists as a problem try a Hosts file.

It definitely is "system" and not "system idle". They
both appear in the processes tab in both columns - image
name and user name

In that case use Process Explorer to see what application is running the
process.
Task Manager is useful but you could look at another
freeware utility Process Explorer, which provides similar information but
adds that little bit extra towards seeing what the running processes
represent. For further information about Process Explorer see here:

I am using an IBM desktop (Pentium4 CPU 3GHz) with WIndows XP. I am running a
computationally intensive program and there are nothing else running in it.
However I get only 50%CPU for that process and the other 50% is for System
Idle process (Task Managershows like this). How can I get ~100% for my
program. It is extremely slow even compared to another computer with 2.0GHz.
How to solve this problem?
