slow system

My workstation has been working fine then recently it
takes a long time before I can even get the dialogbos to
login.
Any ideas how to start troubleshooting this problems?

Several things to check:
- is your boot/system drive almost full?
- is your pagefile adequately large?
- have you run chkdsk lately?
- have you defragmented your drive(s) lately? With a defragger that can
defrag ALL files (unlike the one included w/W2k)?
- have you installed any apps or updates recently that might account for
this change in system response? If so, try uninstalling, testing
performance, then (if you wish) reinstalling.

The conditions that may be detected/corrected by doing the above are the
most frequent cause of increasing slowdowns and the easiest to correct.

I think all of Dan's steps are worthwhile and want to throw in repair of Internet Explorer as another thing to try.
