Slow startup

I'm am experiencing slow startup time while I am waiting for different apps to start at boot. Recently went from Cable to DSL and I believe this may be the issue

It appears that Zone Alarm may be waiting to sence a network connection before loading. Once things get going it is the first to come up. Only after it starts does my DSL connection connect and Norton come up.

Does anyone know if this sounds right? If so how can I get my DSL to connect first. I am using an XP dialup to connect not the ISP dialing software

Thanks!

Running the DSL modem will increase the bootup time. I think the XP PPPoe
works well and the ISP software will increase the bootup time. Turn off the
DSL modem and time how much faster the bootup is. Then take the Norton out
of the startup sequence and you will probably see another decrease. I use
hibernation instead of shutting the computer off and it will come to desktop
fully loaded very quickly. Hope this helps you. Jym
