Slow startup loading

When I boot my cpu, the system seems to act properly
until such time as the desktop icons appear. You can not
use anything for another two or three minutes as the HD
light keeps flashing, then finally the icons blank out
and re-apper again.

Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to
rectify it?

Hi,

One reason for this to happen is that you might have a
lot of things in your startup. These are the things that
appear on the taskbar near the clock.

You can remove this things by doing the following thing.

Start->Run

Type msconfig
and select the startup tab.

You will cruise on then...

Tried disabling all startup items. Same results.
