slow start-up

Can anyone suggest where to start looking to improve the
time it takes to start XP Pro? It takes my computer 2 or
3 minutes before all the tray icons are in place.

Click the Start button and then click Run. In the run dialog box type
msconfig When the msconfig window opens click on the startup tab. Check to
see what is actually loading at start up. You may not need all those icons
in your system tray. It sounds as if your system is loading a lot of things
in the background before you get to a complete desktop. I think, i haven't
checked recently, my machine takes around 85 to 90 seconds to boot to a
workable desktop. That includes, messenger, zone alarm, anti virus and roxio
drag to disc.

Hope this helps
