slow shutdown

My laptop is runnig very well and everything seems to be in order. Ive
checked for spyware, defragmented andcleaned up the system but.......when i
go to start>shutdown it takes about a minute to give me the option of
shutdown,restart,standby then it shutsdown ok(with a little hang), however
this o hournly happens if im on the laptop for about an hour, if im only on
for half an hour it shutsdown fine and like normal. i only use it for
internet and MSN and i have norton installed. however i wnet to the event
viewer and there is the same error at the time of shutdown every time it
says.....

Look at all the apps your have told to run 24/7. Turn off the ones you
dont need to run 24/7. Problem fixed.
