Slow response

When I click on "Reply" to an email message there is a lengthy delay
(compared to MS Outlook Express) before the address fills in and I am able
to commence typing my message. When using MS Outlook Express the response
was instant.

Is this common or do I need to check some setting?

It is common, some have reported that opening Calendar in a session reduces
those delays?

Thank you. I'll try the suggested fixes. (I have 4800 contacts and several
thousand messages!)

With that many contacts I would expect to see a delay.
