Windows Mail Slow to respond to commands

Every command in Windows Mail takes about 45-70 seconds to respond...whether
it's opening and email, sending a message, forwarding a message, looking up
and address. Much slower than Outlook Express which did all those things
instantly. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
