Running XP SP1 on a new emachines. Give a slow response when typing a
url in to the address bar in IE6. Also slow to bring up windows
explorer and My computer options. Always gets there eventually. I have
loaded Nortons Antivirus 2003 with updates and ran a scan. I have
loaded and cleaned up with spybot A&D. I have installed ZoneAlarm.
Installed critical patches to the machine, all without any success. I
have reinstalled from scratch also. Searched the newgroups, switched
off all scripting options in IE, loaded no extra software apart from
what I have listed. I have a Linksys Wireless router that servers a
laptop also, which is working fine and with no obvious differences.
I can't think of a lot else to do so suggestions appreciated. I do not
think this to be a hardware issue, as I have been running without any
problems at all with performance on Netscape 6.2. Although it troubles
me that any explorer options seem to to show the same symptoms.
Thanks in advance

Clean out all the Temporary Internet Files. regularly

Dump all of the files in your TEMP folder. regularly

Run a defrag on your hard drive to get all the files back
in order

Keep up with your Anti-Virus updates. at least every week

Back up your DATA. You can replace programs
but your DATA means hours of work for you to input all
the old information.

Thanks - I got around it by re-installing all of the drivers including
what turned out to be a corrupt HP scanner driver (it was out dated
too!) Very weird, but got there in the end - Thanks again
