slow processing and low virtual memory - need new memory card?

hi,

my computer knowledge is rudimentary and i need help here in getting new
memory card.

since installing internet with download of further softwares such as
antivirus, firewall, printer driver, automatic updates etc etc, my computer
becomes very slow. for eg, when i turn on the computer, it will take it about
5 minutes to initialise all these softwares and during this period, there's
nothing much i could do with the keyboard. occasionally, the "the low virtual
memory" message pops up.

my questions are:
1) that the above is due to insufficient RAM? and that means needing more
memory card?

2) what memory card should i buy? the staff at PC World told me that i need
to find out the DCR (?) number (eg 2100, 2300, 2700. 4300) but i can't find
it. my computer is an NEC Versa Easy Note M5xx laptop, Pentium 4 x86 Family
15 Model 2 Stepping 9 CPU of 2.60 GHz and 256 MB RAM. My operating system is
Windows XP Home Edition 2002 Sevice Pack 1.

3) what do all the acronyms on the memory card such as SDRAM , DDR etc etc
etc mean?

4) where are the slots for the memory cards? do i replace the old card with
the new one, or do i add on the new card?

thank you.

No, it means that the pagefile is too small.

Consult the experts at www.crucial.com.
3) what do all the acronyms on the memory card such as SDRAM , DDR etc etc

The experts at www.crucial.com can answer this.
4) where are the slots for the memory cards? do i replace the old card

The slots are on the motherboard. Consult the manual which came with your
computer.
Exactly how one adds memory cards depends on the model of computer. Consult
the manual which came with your computer.
You may not need more memory.
thank you.
