Slow print on nettwork

J

Johan

Case:
HP Lj5SiMX with newest firmware upgrade on JetDirect card
and 12MB memory in printer
Print driver is the newest PS driver from HP
Windows 2000 Server with SP3 installed

Observed condition:
Spools approx. 4Kb off print job and hangs for 10 min or
more before spooling more data. Print job's can be from
860Kb to more than 9 MB, but the print job it self can
take up to 30 min to finish

Problem started for 2 weeks ago and is not effecting the
other printers on the network

Any tips would be appreciated

After installing SP3 on 2000, we had to take RPC out of the picture to
solve this. First remove the
network printer and then install it as a Local Printer as follows (the
last step is the key):

Open Printers

Double-click Add Printer to start the Add Printer wizard, and then
click Next.

Click Local printer, clear the Automatically detect my printer check
box, and then click Next.

Follow the instructions on the screen to finish setting up the printer
by selecting a printer port, selecting the manufacturer and model of
your printer, and typing a name for your printer.

When the Add Printer wizard prompts you to select the printer port,
click Create a new port.

Name the new port as the network share (\\ServerName\ShareName)
