slow performance of pc

hi there i recently installed mcafee anti virus scan and mcafee personal
firewall on my pc the problem i am having now is when i switch on my pc and
try and enter a program it takes a very long time to open and sometimes a box
will appear saying that NT ON ACCESS SCANNER SERVICE HAS ENCOUNTERED A
PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE. also i am a complete beginner on a pc and dont
really know what im doing thanks
