Slow Performance

Although I have Pentium 4 - 3.20GHz Processor my PC is getting slower and
slower in producing and opening files. My PC is scanned regularly with
Ad-Aware and has a Spayware Doctor on watch in the background all the time
it is in use. I also have a very efficient Firewall (which sometimes is so
efficient that it becomes a nuisance) so what could be causing this slowing
down in performance? My 120GB HDD is 60% free and Win.Vista Upgrade Advisor
informs me that 512 MB RAM is adequate at present even for Ultimate. Has any
of you any ideas what the problem could be?

When was the last time you defragged the drive?
Right click My Computer, choose Manage. Choose Disk Defragmenter and run
it.

I defragment once a month - every month!

When was the last time you defragged the drive?
Right click My Computer, choose Manage. Choose Disk Defragmenter and run
it.

512 may work, but my understanding is that you won't get the Aero interface.
