Slow PC

My PC had become very slow. I have windows 2000 operation
system on a Dell Inspiron 8100. The PC was always very
fast. Stranbge is also that the cooling-ventilator of the
PC frequently starts. Who can help me further?

Usual reason is malware/worms/trojans etc. have been installed due to
operating the system on the internet with no firewall and out of date or
no antivirus software. If your PC is in that category some updating is
in order.
