Slow Network

I am having a network issue that is driving me nuts. I have a office with
roughly 20 computers in it with 2 servers both servers are currently running
windows 2000 with lastest services packs. 18 of the 20 workstations are xp
pro and other 2 are windows 2000. I have 4 computers that all have the same
issue. When they go to file and open in any program (autocad, execl, word,
powerpoint), and choose the drop down menu to change to a network drive they
get a lag time of atlest 6 seconds. this occurs even when they are in the
network drive already and have been in that folder all day. The delay
doesn't appear to happen as often or as bad when they run thou my computer.
This does happen when they go into sub-folders even the delay is still there.
I have made sure there primary DNS points to the domain controller. I have
2 test computers that have this issue that I have tried many different fixes
for such as the following
Made sure kb811493 was removed
desktop ini file was removed or changed
all network shortcuts in my network places has been removed
that no new network shortcuts can be created in my network places
disable AV software
disable active scan on software
netbois disable over tcp/ip
disable AV software running on server
ran ethereal to see if I am getting any major problems on the network traffic

If anyones has anymore ideas I would be greatful or if someone has had this
problem and found a fix for it.

I am running over a 100based network with a 24 port switch that is unmanagable

thanks

Slow network performance like yours could have several causes.

Disabling NetBIOS Over TCP/IP may not be the proper solution. Windows
Networking uses TCP/IP, and NetBIOS Over TCP/IP, as its supported transport.
First, check your network configuration:

Next, check the domain setup completely, not just the computers themselves.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all", from 2 of the
problem computers, and 2 of the properly working computers. Read this article,
and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely:

Try "66.102.15.101" in place of "nitecruzr.blogspot.com". Or try from another
computer. And make sure that you copy and paste the entire URL, EXCEPT for the
"<" and ">", into the address field in your browser.
