Ken

I have an NT Based network with all Win 2000 workstations.
I have recently benn having problems with 3 of them. They
are laptops The problem is when I click on an icon to
start a program it hangs for about 30-45 sec before the
program will start. CPU is at 100% on which ever program I
am trying to start. These are pretty nice laptops 2Ghz 512
ram.Once the program start everything runs fine. Anyone
have any idea whats going on here. I don't think it is a
virus as I have Norton Corp Edition with updated def
files.

TIA

check which process is taking all the processign power (go
to task manager->processes and try to figure out what's
happening.

I've actually been having problems with Norton maxing out resources. I
replaced the norton suite with 3rd party utilities like spybot, AVG, and
zone-alarm.

I noticed the same or similar problems

It started happening AFTER the addition of SP4.

I’ve got Outlook Express set to check mail every six minutes.
After letting it run all night the system was extremely slow.
Checking Task Manager, I discovered that Zone Alarm’s
“True Vector Internet Monitorâ€, vsmon.exe, had “devouredâ€
about 400,000k of my 512,000k of ram. Shutting down Zone
alarm helped a little, but I still had to restart to “clear the cacheâ€
