After windows XP is running, I click on my icon to log on
and it take over 1 minute to log me on. Before it would
only take about 5 seconds. Nothing has really changed. I
am current with antivirus and scan regularly. How can I
speed up my log on process?

It's good that you have a current av installed, but other programs and
processes can be running in the background that aren't classed as
viruses. You didn't mention doing this, but I would definitely remove
any spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy (www.security.kolla.de) and
Ad-aware (www.lavasoftusa.com). Be sure to update these programs before
running, and it is a good idea to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode.
You may have recently installed programs that are doing automatic
update checking. This can be legitimate but invasive, like RealOne or
Quicktime checking, etc. If you connected to a network and now you
don't, Windows could be looking for a network resource. Since you
didn't describe your computer, there really isn't any way of knowing.

Check with msconfig and look on both the Startup and Processes tab to
see what starts with Windows. Post back with more details if you'd like
more help.
