Slow Login

Maurice Loucel

I got a network with win 2003, NO PUBLIC DNS(NO web
site), I created my own fake one (on the server), then I
use a router to get a dhcp address and DNS to go to the
internet, now If I try to login with XP using the domain
the connection is slow and painful as hell, if I login
locally and then access my network drives, NO Problema,
with my windows 98 and Me, computer Login is a breeze,
fast and reliable all the time.
I Do not understand can someone help me.

make sure on the xp machine, the dns is fixed to point to the server's ip.
if it's set to get dns for dhcp, the login would take minutes.
also, use the following to make sure all network components are loaded on
startup:
open the MMC and add the group policy snap-in. Under Computer
Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->System-->Logon, change "Always
wait for the network at computer startup and logon" to ENABLED.
