Hi David,
Please provide some additional information. Are you in a W2K Domain?
If yes, this sounds like a typical scenerio where DNS is not setup properly
for the domain.

Check the ipconfig/all. Does everything point to the server-IP?

90% of the time, the issue is related to your Client DNS settings and your
Server DNS Settings. Make sure your Server points to itself or another DNS
server that will accept it's dynamic updates, and the make sure the client
is pointed to that same server. In some cases you will see an xp client
still for about 10-15 mins applying your personal settings etc.

So DNS is very important to this. :)

Microsoft Folks I have made all of these modifications and this still does not work. I have been experincing this issue for two months on and off. Somethings when I join XP workstations to our domain I get this problem and sometimes I don't. O have two Domain Controllers both running DNS one as a primary the other as a back-up. Then I have three other DC's that are just member servers. I have DNS setup to where everything works fine. except for this. Name lookups, browsing the domain, joining the domain, RDP into servers. I can manage workstations from a server and see event logs. All these things are mostly DNS dependent. IF DNS was configuired wrong half these things could not be achieved, CORRECT!!! Any other suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Are you client workstations pointing to the DNS server hosting your Active
Directory namespace? This is required.

Would love to know how you set up a DC as a member server. Didn't think it
was possible.
