Slow login to domain

I have seen this problem consistantly with window 2000 &
2003 servers. Server is setup with very standard install
with Active Directory. Domain user try logging into
server sometime takes 1-5 minute (sometime longer) to
logon and load setting.

It seems to stall at the as XP, Win2000 Pro user are
having the personal setting loaded from the Server.
Once everything loads, it works fine and users has access
to the domain/network.

It just seems strange that logging oo to the domain takes
so long. Any suggestions

This is usually due to the client computer pointing to a DNS server that is
not the AD DNS server. Usually it is the ISP's DNS server.

Point all AD clients to the DNS server set up for AD. Point the AD DNS
server to itself for DNS, for Internet access configure your AD DNS server
to forward requests and list your ISP's DNS server as the forwarder.

If I understand you properly....all AD cleints should
have their network properties point to the DNS server
(192.168.1.200) instead of the ISP DNS: 68.5.6.25?

Also, is there an easy way to determine the DNS ip an AD
client is using. IPCONFIG from the command prompt
doesn't give this information

Thanks,

Peter

Not "should", they MUST be pointed to your AD DNS server. For Internet
access set up forwarders on your AD DNS server.

Use: ipconfig /all
