slow IE

My Internet Explorer has suddenly started to work very slow: in fact
the web pages don't get downloaded at all (not even in an hour or so,
and then I closed the IE window).
When I ping, it seems to work fine, and the response speed seems to be
alright (less then 1ms in most cases).

I recently had a problem of low disk space, which I have resolved (?)
by uninstalling less-used programs.
I have also run Spybot, Adaware and AVG antivirus on my system, but no
help. I can't recall any settings related to IE that I changed which
might have cause this problem.

I am using Internet Explorer 6, Windows XP Pro.
Please help.
