slow IE help

My IE is slow. I have IE6 sp1, should have all the updates. I have XP sp2,
also should be up to date. I perform spyware check nightly with Microsoft
Anti-spyware, and at least weekly with ad-aware and spybot. My system
"should" be clean. when I use IE the web pages come up very slow. I have
cable broadband and I do use firefox which is fast(soon as I click pages come
up), my download speeds in both firefox and IE are fast, so I belive the
connection is ok. But some sites I need IE, and there seems to be like a 5+
sec lag between the click and the page coming up. I have also noticed
certain programs that connect to the internet lag also. Windows media play,
real player, yahoo messenger all take forever to connect when first accessing
the internet. Is there some setting I'm missing, any help is greatly
appreciated

If you have WinXP SP2 and IE6 SP1, you have a bad install of SP2. Uninstall
it, turn off your anti-virus and install it again.

thank you, I was reading how to uninstall sp2 and it talked about a system
restore/recovery. so will I still have all the programs I installed since the
sp2 installation or will I have to install those again, because I've
collected a lot of stuff since then. I got sp2 when it first came out, I've
just noticed my IE problem recently(within past 3 months). I just got
broadband in march. everything seem fine then. but about 3 months ago I got
bombarded with popups and unwanted toolbar/spyware installations then I
installed sygate firewall the popups and stuff went away but had the IE
problem so I just switched to firefox. But I want to use IE because a lot of
sites are basically made to work with IE. sorry for the rambling on but I was
hoping for an easier solution. I don't want to have to reinstall everything
since before sp2 ya know. again thank you for your help

Uninstalling SP2 from Add/Remove Programs should not cause any programs to
stop working.
