IE not working

when ever i try to access some sites on IE it gets redirected to firefox
browser and the page opens up in firefox

background, i had IE 6 , upgraded it IE 7 and downgraded back to IE 6
my yahoo messenger is also not working with any settings , like no proxies ,
no firewall and stuff

Is IE configured as your default Browser in Set Program Access and Defaults?

Yes it is set as the default browser . whats strange is when i type on the
address bar of IE, the link is opening in the firefox, its quite surprising

Do you have this registry key?
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{c90250f3-4d7d-4991-9b69-a5c5bc1c2ae6}
Reference: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2005/12/16/504864.aspx
You should not have this key with IE6. An update for IE6 may have created
it. Installing or updating Firefox may have created it.
Installing/uninstalling IE7 Beta may have left the key behind.

If you find that key in your registry, Export it (just in case) Delete it.
Restart.

If you're not familiar with regedit, please post back or seek help.
