Slow drop down menu

When I use the save as function or similar to save to a
different location than the default, it takes as long as
10 seconds after clicking on the drop down menu for the
menu to appear. Is there a fix for this?
Running Windows XP Home on a Dell 3.2 Ghz w/ 1 gb ram.
Office 2003.

Another point about this is that it appears to be the
initialization of the function. If I go back to change
the location again, everything works normally
