You might try turning off QOS on the router.. this may be interfering with
your bandwidth downloads.. easy to test...

sorry I did not get back to you sooner but speeds are still the same with
qos disabled on both pc's and router.

I wonder if the switchports of the router are only 10 Mb ports? You might
try statically setting the speed on the NIC's properties (Device Manager) to
100 Full Duplex..

Again, I have never setup a Zyxel, so I am grasping at straws here..

no already set to full duplex..by default it's set to auto but I changed
that a long time ago..thanks for trying..I have even stopped bandwidth
monitoring to see if that helped..

Wish I were there to take a look around at that router, but if I was, I would
probably at this point try substituting another brand Router (Linksys is what
I usually use for Consumer Grade installations)... So, if you have a friend
that has one that you could borrow, perhaps?

Thanks for your response I am not using router at the moment and am getting
better speeds..I will be contacting ZyXEL tomorrow to see if they can help
me out..I posted a message on their help site but as yet not been contacted
by them...if I get no hope I will return router to shop.. and then purchase
linksy's as recommended on here and virgin media self help forum...I will
let you know what results are after speaking with ZyXEL..thanks again for
replies

Hi Ray.....I fixed it myself this morning after reading trouble shooting
guide...It says reset router with pin at back of it....so I tried that...???
and guess what ?....

It works at almost full speed through router on my pc..not tried kids yet as
they need pci usb2 ports to make usb to Ethernet adaptor work at
100mbps...my reading this morning(PEAK TIME)..is 18348.6mbps..so happy I
fixed it...I have not got bandwidth monitoring switched on..I think that may
of slowed things down?
Thanks for your assistance hope this helps you or other people...

That is good news, Nigel.. Sometimes, once you have played with the settings
for a while, the best is always to reload the defaults and start fresh..
Just like any computer, it loves a fresh OS.

Take care.

Hi it's gone back the same again..Zyxel have sent me an e-mail and are
passing my query up to someone higher tech...hopefully they will have a way
to resolve this issue.

I noticed you had set your router to auto and full on the duplex, but you did
not mention half duplex. I USED to work on a network and found some systems
had problems negotiating a connection while the duplex was set to auto or
full. Setting the duplex to half resolved the issue and the connection
responded as it should with good performance...

Thanks I'll try anything while I wait for ZyXEL to contact me...I'll let you
know how it goes thanks again...

Nigel,

See if this is a case of the router not supporting Windows Scaling.
