Hi,

One of our workstations logs very slowly in our domain (
about 10' before login ). When login is done, speed
connection is ok .... any idea

Our DC is a W2K Server

Regards

Dirk

Are the DNS settings on this one computer correct? Slow login on the domain
is usually caused by bad DNS settings.

Thanks a lot but workstation receives DNS from DHCP server
( same has other workstations ...) so I think problem is
not there ...

Do the users on your network have roaming profiles? If
so, try logging on as a different user and then logging
off... and back on again. When you log on the second
time, does it take a long time? Also, check to see if
that workstation is caching the profiles or if it is
deleting the profile after the user logs off. If it is
deleting the profile after the user logs off, and you
have roaming profiles, that would explain why it takes a
long time to log on as that workstation is pulling the
information form the DC or fileserver (wherever you store
the profiles).

If logging on as a separate user works fine, then have
the user that is having problems log onto a different
workstation and check to see how long it takes the second
time he/she logs on. If it works fine, then it is a
problem with the computer. If it takes a long time, then
it is a problem with the users' profile.

Richard's advice is sound - one way this can occur is due to DNS
misconfiguration. All servers and workstations should specify *only* the
internal AD-integrated DNS server's IP address in their network settings.
The AD-integrated DNS server should be set up with forwarders to your ISP's
DNS servers for external resolution. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300202 for more
info.

I also have this problem but only on Sony Notebooks.
Everybody else is working fine.

Well, I doubt the problem is due to the specifics of the laptop
manufacturer. Compare the TCP/IP config on the laptops to those on the
desktops. Do you have hosts files in use for the laptops?
