Hi
my networks works perfectly when connected but for some reason, the
connection process is very slow.

All systems have staic IP's and Subnet Masks

All connections to internet are made through a 16 port switch connected to
an adsl modem router.

What can cause the network connectio to be slow?

John,

Please provide more detail here. Tell us what you're seeing when the connection
process is very slow. Tell us about your network - how the computers connect,
what operating systems you run, what you're doing.

Hi
Thanks for the reply
all pc's are installed with XP pro sp2 and all updates.
When I access my network places and select view workgroup computers, the egg
timer is displayed for some time. somtimes 30 seconds sometimes a couple of
minutes. eventually the workgroup opens and shows all pc's. select a pc to
access and the same happens again, the egg timer. once you have access to a
pc everthing works as expected. if you click the back arrow in a pc to
return back to the "view workgroup computers" then the egg timer shows
again, very slow.
This is the same for all workgroups.
Any ideas

Regards

John

OK, John,

Look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and "net
config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the problem. Read this
article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download
browstat!):

Read the browstat and ipconfig articles.

Look for specific problems.
# Browstat: Gratuitous protocols, master browser conflicts.
# IPConfig: Incompatible Node Type.
