My laptop runs soooo slowly. I know I have useless files but I don't know how
to clean them up. Can someone help with this?

That's normal when installing WinXP on an old machine matching the minimum
requirements. Otherwise, defrag the drive/s and scan the system for Malware.
Make sure that all drives run in UDMA mode.

What is slow? Booting, running the system or all?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task
Manager and click the Performance Tab. Under Commit
Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

How large is the partition in which Windows XP is located
and how much free space?

To increase you free space select Start, All Programs,
Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp, More Options, System Restore
and
remove all but the latest System Restore points? Restore points can be
quite
large.

You should use Disk CleanUp regularly to Empty your Recycle Bin and
Remove Temporary Internet Files. Whenever you remove redundant files you
should always run Disk Defragmenter by selecting Start, All Programs,
Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter.

Hope this helps.

Useless files have no effect on the speed of the computer, and are not
your problem. If some of those useless files are program files, and
those programs are *running*, they may have an effect on speed.

Cleaning up useless files may be good to do to save disk space, but
look elsewhere for your performance problem.

Can someone help with this?

It's very difficult to help you, since you've provided essentially no
information. Start by answering the following questions:

1. What is your hardware configuration? CPU, amount of RAM?

2. What firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware programs do you run?
Are they kept up to date?

3. What programs to you have automatically starting with Windows?
(Look in MSCONFIG to see these.)

Disable any and all background apps you have set to run 24/7
