slow computer , everything

Don't know if it's my whole computer or just the browser
but everything is running slow except outlook express
which is so-so.
My virus scan checked the temp files and found adware,
spyware, and something called Exploit and marked
them "potentially unwanted temp files." Could these be
causing a problem?
What can I do to get things back up to speed?

Yes. It might be one of the causes.

Run Ad-Aware scan. Download the software from www.lavasoftusa.com
Update it using web update feature and scan the system.

If this does not help, disable all the BHOs. To disable the Tool Bands and
Browser Helper Objects features:

Close all instances of Internet Explorer, click Start, point to Settings,
and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab.
Under Browsing, click to clear the Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) check box.
Restart Internet Explorer.
