Slow Boot After Upgrade From XP Home To Pro

Guys:

Hopefully somebody can help me figure this one out. I've
got a new Dell Inspiron 600m that came preloaded with
Windows XP Home edition. The machine takes about 30
seconds to boot up from power on to ready to work.

I upgraded from XP Home to XP Professional SP1
yesterday. No error messages or problems, in fact
everything works great. Except, now it takes about a
minute or two from the time the desktop is displayed
before I can access any applications. The mouse works
just fine, but if I double-click any icons or try to open
anything, it will be a good minute or so until it finally
opens.

Perhaps somebody else out there has the same issue. Any
ideas or suggestions on how to fix this? I would be most
appreciative.

Thanks!

Paul

Such a replacement leaves files way out of optimal positions. Over the
next week or so, the system will observe the patterns of file use as it
boots and as programs load, and every three days in an idle period, do
some mini-defrag, towards getting them back to best positions. You can
speed this up to an extent by doing a defrag yourself regularly for a
couple of weeks
