Slow accessing files from Explorer

T

Tim Brown

We have a user who is experiencing unacceptable open file responses from
within Windows Explorer. When she attempts to open a document (any Office
XP 2002 SP3 document) it takes up to a minute to open (this happens whether
the application is open or not) yet when she opens a document from within a
Office application it opens instantly. This also happens when logging in
without using profiles.

I have ran a chkdsk, defrag, Detect and repair on Office, a Windows XP SP2
repair, created a InfoCacheLevel of 10 registry setting, checked for addins
etc.

I've run out of ideas!

I've seen this happen sometimes, but not always, when Open Office is
installed and is set to "open" MS Office file types.
