I have recently purchased a new PC (Intel E6550 Core 2 Duo, GB RAM, 450 GB
HDD) and have kept the same router that I was previously using, along with
my same internet provider.

My connection speeds have dropped drastically to the point where on
occasions MSIE hangs and will not connect to pages at all. I use Fireox also
and this does not generally appear to have the same problem, even when MSIE
is having trouble.

I do not have a firewall other than Windows, and even with this and AVG AV
disabled the problem still occurs.

MSN Messenger also has difficulty connecting and requires it's internal
diagnostic program to run at times to get me going.

I have reinstalled all divers, network adapters etc and now starting to get
a tad frustrated since everything was working fine with my old XP set up.

Download speed from speedtest.net is around 500kbps as opposed to over 2000
I was previously getting.

Any suggestions gratefully received thanks!

You're joking right?
It's sort of like the egg not being compatible with the chicken.

It is a pain in the a*** if that is the case, it is one more thing that I
need to replace as well as my old system, my webcam, .... You could be
forgiven for thinking that M$ are in bed with the hardware manufacturers...

Run the test in the link I posted. This will help to diagnose if the router
is the cause of the problem. It could also be a driver problem. If it is the
router there are several possible fixes. In many cases a firmware update to
the router will fix it. In other cases you can turn off some of the advanced
networking features in Vista.

Hi Kerry

I ran the test, it gave a result of 'not supported' for the network address
translator type' and TCP high performance tests, and when it was running the
UPnP support test I let it run for over 30 minutes before stopping it
without a result. That test ought to have taken under 3 minutes I
understand.

I have the latest firmware update on my router and have also emailed
Dynalink support to ask if they have any advice.

Does that assist you in identifying my problem?

Cheers

Try turning off UPnP on the router, uncheck IPv6 in the network connection
and turn off receive window autotuning in Vista.
