Is there any CD burning freeware that can handle slipstreaming?

I want to slipstream Windows XP Home and the Service Pack 2.

I have Nero Express, which is not up to the job.

Thanks.

It certainly is...

You need slipstreaming software: autostream.

Autostreamer. My bad.

AutoPatcher's little brother, has finally gone final! At its current state,
AutoStreamer works as a slipstreamer-only. Basically, all it really needs is
a source (that being an original Windows CD or a local share) and a Service
Pack file.
Requirements
1. Windows 2000/XP/2003 (Windows 9x/Me won't do)
2. The latest (complete) version of AutoStreamer - Check the official
AutoStreamer thread.
3. Administrative privileges
4. A CD recorder and a blank CD

Supported Service Pack files:
- Windows 2000: SP3 onwards (meaning you can't select a SP1/SP2 file as a
service pack)
- Windows XP: Any
- Windows 2003: Any

Running AutoStreamer

NLite does an excellent job.

I suspect I must be one of those idiots then :-(

Surprised the sh*t outta me when it worked first time out. It usually
takes half a dozen screwups on my part before I can get anything to
work.
Seriously, though, when I've tried to slipstream, the size of the
resulting merged data has been too great to fit on a CD. What's going
on there then?

Can't say. Like I said, I used nLite, and just followed the directions.
Didn't do anything fancy, just integrated SP2 into a base XP Pro
install. My ISO of the base XPpro is 500,334 KB; the XPproSP2 ISO is
603,068 KB. The standalone SP2 executable is 272,391 KB -- I suspect
your "merge" isn't really merging, but is actually just piling one on
top of the other.
