Slipstreaming hotfix to RIS image?

B

Ben Blackmore

Hi,

Is it possible to slipstream hotfixes into a RIS image? I have a Win2k pro
cd with sp4 slipstreamed into it. I used this CD to create my initial RIS
image. I then booted a PC and installed win2k from this image. Once it had
installed I installed all my programs and the latest win2k
hotfixes/updates/patches from our SUS server. I then wanted to create a 2nd
RIS image from this install, so I wouldn't have to install all the
software/updates again. However up on running riprep.exe I got an error
message saying:

"Missing CD Image
The server to which you chose to replicate this system does not contain a
CD-based image. The version of the CD-based image on the server must match
the version of the system you are attempting to copy. Select a different
server or add a CD-based image to this server."

According to MS
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;262801 this error
appears when: You try to run Riprep.exe on a computer that has a hotfix that
updates Ntoskrnl.exe

So the only way around this is to re-install windows and all the software,
but not the latest hotfixes, or find some way of applying the hotfixes to
the cd-image already on the RIS server.

Is this possible?

Cheers

Ben

It's possible to integrate hotfixes (that use UPDATE.EXE as their installer,
i.e. "real" W2K and XP hotfixes) into an installation CD or network install.
Cf. MSKB 8828930, 814847 and 296723, but 249149 as well as the HFDeploy.htm
that comes with every service pack.

PS: fup microsoft.public.win2000.windows_update
X-posting without setting a fup to only one group is BAD!
