I know this is off-topic, bur for some newbees, it might be
enlightening.
I am a retiree, fully disabled, on Social Security, so I
have had to make due with upgrading this n that one part at
a time for the past 5 years or so.
These days I have a pretty nice machine. A 200 Gb (my goal
is a 300), 512 mb RAM, a 128 mb video, AMD 1.8 Ghz, a 80 Gb
external usb backup hdd. etc.
But I've always used used (discarded) speakers, used
(discarded keyboards), and used (discarded) mice.
I finally acquired a usb mouse a few months ago that had a
"Goodwill" tag on the bottom of it. It was crap, but I was
tired of cleaning the ball under my mouse almost daily.
I finally got a "ergonomic keyboard" that has GREATLY
improved my tender, sore wrists, and now I realize I merely
need a NEW ergonomic, usb keyboard.
Back to the mouse.
I had had a family friend tell me some 10 years ago that two
things I should invest some real coin in would be a QUALITY
mouse, and a QUALITY keyboard.
When I realized that there were pros and cons to the
infrared/usb mouse I'd just acquired (someone threw it
away), and it repeats like a sob, I finally had had enough.
I went online and found a quality, guaranteed infrared, usb
mouse for a mere $12 + shipping.
Gone is the repeating, the system recognized it INSTANTLY,
(this is where it all ties back into XP) and it's likely the
nicest mouse I've owned. It's a bit small for my hand, but I
can adjust, or I can save my pennies and buy a bigger mouse
next time.
Lesson is, don't skimp on your mouse or on your keyboard.
They can be your best friends or your worst enemies.
Good luck!
