Slightly off topic: Installation drive problem

Hi

My windows xp PC's IDE controller and hard drive gave way at the same time.
So I have got a SATA card PCI and SATA drive to replace them. Problem is
that CD-ROM to install windows xp is still running off the faulty IDE
controller and freezes when copying files during windows install so windows
install has not completed despite several tries and each time I had to start
from scratch.

I am not sure how to proceed from here to enable a working CD-ROM with what
I got to enable installation of windows xp off it. I am thinking of getting
a SATA CD-ROM and run it of the second channel on SATA card but the problem
is that SATA card requires its own driver installed via F6 during windows
and it is not available at the initial boot from windows install CD. How can
I get a CD-ROM to work so I can use it to install windows in my case?

Many thanks for any help.

Regards

Buy a $20 IDE to SATA conversion adapter. Plug into your existing
Optical drive and connect to your second SATA channel. Alternately
you could buy a stand-alone PCI IDE controller to host the IDE CD.
But adding another IDE controller just seems too much work-around
and I'd replace/upgrade the Motherboard instead.
**SATA based Opticals will have issues with lots of burning apps,
such as Easy CD so be aware of the downsides of that solution.

So your mobo failed, at least the ide controller; buy a new mobo, as what
else is failing?
