Slides are cropped in PDF

When I write a PDF, all the slides are missing a significant part at the
edges, as if I had specified to crop a certain width all the way around. I've
tried several ways of creating the PDFs and keep getting this result. Any
explanations and advice appreciated.
 
Care to tell us the different ways you tried to create your PDF's?
 
Do a CTRL-A on a slide to see if there is any objects outside the perimeter
of the slide. If you find anything - delete it. See if this helps.

I used:

- Powerpoint: File - Save as PDF
- CutePDF
- RoboPDF

The results were identical as far as I could see, which at least gave me
confidence that the PDF format and the ways of writing it are really
standardized.

I think I found the issue. Under File - Setup, the slide dimensions had been
