Slide Show View coming up blank

J

JMurf

Greetings,
I'm assisting a user w/ PowerPoint 2000 on Windows NT.
After he opens up a .PPT file (he didn't create it), &
clicks to SLIDE SHOW view, his screen goes completely
black (blank) for @ least a 2-3 minutes. He cannot close
power point (or the slide show) unless he does
CTRL+ALT+DEL. Incidentally, when he does the End Task,
the both the slide show & PowerPoint display as "Not
Responding."

Other users, including me, do not have this issue w/ this
file. He has access to many other .PPT files, but this
one particular file gives him this problem. How can I
resolve this?

Any help appreciated! Thanks very much!

Hi JMurf,

possible reason no. 1: How BIG is the file (in MB, not no. of slides)?
possible reason no. 2: Did he save it to a network folder (so that the
program has to "search" it)?
possible reason no. 3: Are his video drivers up-to-date?

additional questions: Was the file created using PPT 2000?
Which version do YOU use to open it?

Kind regards,
Ute

Ute,
Thanks for the reply.
--The file is 1.9MB
--File was emailed to him, he always accesses this & other
files by saving to his HD. I don't think he ever saves or
pulls these from LAN. He has other .ppt files that are
quite large also; but only this one gives him the problem.
--he's using an old IBM 600X laptop; have no idea about
the video driver, but I doubt it's updated. ANY
RECOMMENDATIONS for this model type?
--I'm using PowerPoint 2000 as well.

Hi JMurf,

I have NO idea then! The file is neither TOO large, nor do I see any reasons
for version incompatibility issues (though there are only very few).

Did you try resending the file? It simply could be an e-mail problem.

Another possibility: Open a NEW presentation and use "Insert | Slides from
file" to
create a new presentation. Save this and try whether it behaves as it
should.

Kind regards
Ute

Thanks so much for the input, both of you! I confirmed
that his video driver is up-to-date. In addition, he's on
Office 2000, SP-3 (9.0.6620).

The good news (so far) is that he reports NO problems w/
this file today. He has not used it since last week. And
truthfully, I'm not certain how/when he tried the file
last week SINCE I reinstalled Office for him. Not too
sure if there's anything else I can do for him...?
thanks again.
