powerpoint showing blank slides

Dear experts,

I have a colleague who has just migrated to office 2003, and has a problem
with powerpoint files. All his powerpoint slides will display correctly in
the preview pane in windows Explorer, but will show as a blank slide when
opened. The same problem occurs for his Outlook 2003 powerpoint attachments
as well. when he opens them it will show up as a blank slide, but when he
forwards it, they display the contents of the slide. I have tried clearing
all the temp and OLK files and renaming the powerpnt.exe to powerpnt.old but
the problem persists.

Can anyone help? thanks!

First guess --

Are all the SPs and updates installed on his computer. This is critical
with PowerPoint 2003 and opening older files.

Well, let's check some basics...

First, ask him to create a new presentation and place a single word in the
new title slide. Run the show. What's displayed?

Some other things to check --
Does pressing the B key when the show is running get rid of the black
screen?
What version of DirectX is installed, is it current?
Has the video driver recently been updated?
Is he using Norton Anti-virus, and is the Office plug in de-activated?
Are the files on his C: drive or on a network drive?
What files are being used to open the presentation? Does double clicking on
the PPT file open it in PowerPoint?
Does the same thing happen for new files or just the old ones?
Does fix and repair get rid of the problem?
