Open PPT with blank slide

Office 2007 - Vista SP2 Ultimate 32 bit

I want PowerPoint to open with a blank slide each time it opens. I have tried using the Display use "The view saved in the file" setting. It still opens with the Title slide on the slide itself, but, the slide in the Nav pane is blank. I have used this setting as described in the Help files on two other machines and it works, so, not sure what it not working on this one machine.

Any suggestions?

Jan :)

So you're getting a title slide with two "Click here ..." blocks but no
text in them, right?

Why not just press CTRL+A then DEL? That'll get rid of them.

Nooooooo. Why would you teach users to delete placeholders? They'll just
come back if you reapply the slide layout. The users should choose the
appropriate layout. If they don't want placeholders, then that's the "blank"
layout.

I don't know if Shyam's add-in will work in 2007, but it's worth trying.

Hi Steve,

I have created document with a simple blank slide and saved it as Defaultslide. After I posted I looked at the other two PPT programs that do load a blank slide after double clicking on the PPT icon on my desktops down in the lower left side of the window under the nav pane, and the name Office Theme appears there. I am not sure what that means, but, Defaultslide is in that spot on the laptop. I have used the same setting for that as I did the other two. I am not the average user, and the work I do in PPT for my own personal and business purposes do not need to start with a normal presentation layout, most of the work is custom graphics or animation projects. But, should I need to use the normal presentation layout I can always change the layout at the start. Yes, I can use the keyboard steps to remove the placeholders on the slide as you describe, but, I see no need to have to do that when I should be able to set a default layout as I have in the other programs. What I don't understand is why the setting I have set up in the two desktops with the same OS and Office version does not work in the laptop. I have cross-checked the settings with the other two and all is the same, but, when I double click and open the PPT from the desktop Icon the slide workspace displays the Title slide placeholders, but, the slide view in the Nav pane is blank. So, not sure what I need to change or what I need to do......other than get a box of salt..... :)

To create a default template in PPT 2007, follow the instrux here:

Create your own default presentation
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ01010.htm

There are a couple of ways to do it, but I think the first is the easiest,
because the template you're after doesn't always show up in the gallery, and
it can be a hassle to get it there.

Just the same, Echo's right. If you want a blank slide, apply the blank
layout to the first slide that PPT gives you automatically. Costs
nothing,
saves trouble in the long run.

heh, you're too easy. :)

Thanks, Echo...I'll try that. Haven't needed to do that before, but, what the heck...every day's a new day. :)

I don't understand what that's supposed to accomplish, though.

But maybe you need to create a presentation with one blank slide (based on
the blank layout, not the title slide layout) as a template then make that
your default template for new presentations.

In 2002/2003 you could rightclick a template in the Designs pane and tell
PPT to make it the default theme for new presentations. Darned if I can
figure out how to make the same thing happen in 2007, but if it's
possible,
that might do it for you

The idea is that when I double click on the PPT icon on my desktop it opens to a blank slide. And that is what happens with the two deskstops. That is not what is happening with the laptop using the same settings.

That is what I have tried to do, and yet, when it opens PPT it will display the Title page layout on the slide window with the placeholders, but, the slide in the nav pane shows a blank slide...no placeholders. What I don't understand is why.

I have been able to set up a blank slide layout for the default slide when PPT is opened in the desktop 2007 programs, but, the laptop is presenting two different displays of the slide. The nav pane shows a blank slide...yet, the workspace slide displays the Title page placeholders, not a blank slide as is displayed in the nav pane. So, I am getting two different displays of the workspace slide.

Finally got it to work. I get the default blank slide when I open PPT from the desktop icon.

Thanks, Echo, for the link, that helped get it to stick.
