Sky By Broadband Problem - Counter Performance Libraries

Hi everyone!
right i have installed me sky by broadband program and am getting an error
message
upon asking sky about it i received the reponse below

After extensive investigation, our technical teams have determined that the
error message you've experienced (Application Exception), is not caused by
the Sky by broadband application itself, but is caused by a core Microsoft
Windows issue on your computer.

We believe this issue is caused by one of two problems:

The Windows registry Performance Counter Library values have become corrupt,
or
Another application has manually disabled the Performance Counter Library
Due to the complexity of this issue, we recommend that you seek advice from
Microsoft Windows XP support, or a similarly qualified technical reference.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

can someone please tell me how i repair these, if theres a program thatg
will do it for u?
if it is possible
iv read some stuff but to be honest havent a clue!
thanks chris headlam

You haven't mentioned the exact error message you get, nor enough other info
to go on. What version of XP? What SP? What do you see in your event logs?
What other issues have you had lately that might be relevant? Is the system
fully patched?

NB: I found your post a bit difficult to read - good spelling, punctuation
& proper capitalization will go a long way in getting others to help you.

most of it was copied from an email i was sent by sky.com
i get an error message
and this is apparently because my counter performance libraries are corrupt
and need repairing, i am simply asking how i do this, i use windows xp
professional with service pack 2, the rror is irrelevant as i know what i
need to do to make the program work, but dont know how i do this to achieve
it?
dont mean to sound bitch but punctuation and that, who care, you can still
read what i have wrote, as you could in my last email
chris headlam

im a busy man hence why i dont have long to stand and put capital letters
and full stops!
thanks

so in short
how do you repair the registry so the counter performance libraries are not
corrupt any longer?

I would like to help, but I can't read your post since you have not used
proper punctuation and sentence structure.

Besides, I am too busy.

Are you seriously having a laugh?
Where isn't the sentence structure?
I thought people in this community were meant to help each other?
not make it as difficuilt as possible to get an honest answer, and not give
out English lessons.
Is there anybody out there, who isn't a time waster and going to give me
English lessons, who would be so kind as to help me figure out how to repair
the counter performance libraries in WINDOWS XP, SERVICE PACK 2 AND LATEST
UPDATES INSTALLED.
I dont understand why you have to be sarcastic, i was annoyed at the first
response, as instead of them reading the email message i copied from sky,
which did infact describe the problem, they decided to give me an English
lesson.
i basically asked if anyone can give me help on how to repair corrupt
counter performance libraries and all ive had is abuse.
ANYOME GENUINE OUT THERE WHO CAN HELP?

Did I or did I not just fully full stop and capital letter everything in
thast last 2 posts. I mearly pointed out that i was at that point in a rush,
and the post was full comprehendable?
i have posted the same reply to you as i have to the last 2 MVPs
all I would like to know is if anyone can help me? I HAVE NOT come on here
for a slanging match, I obviously overreacted to your first MVP hence the
sarcastic replies.
Now i repeat IS THERE ANYBODY out is genuine and is going to please try and
assist with the problem i originally posted?
when i first posted it i didnt realise it was going to lead to all this?
I just want some help :(

Is English a second or third language for you? If so, may I
suggest that you try posting your question in a news group dedicated
to your native language? I say this not to insult or offend, but
rather to point out that you're not likely to get much help, if no one
can understand what you're saying.

Otherwise, I'd suggest you start by reposting in standard English,
complete with paragraphs, sentences, capital letters where
appropriate, and punctuation. As it is, your post is quite
undecipherable: most of the the words used are from the English
language, but are almost completely meaningless as currently
assembled.

Looking around it may also be a hardware problem that their code is not
aware of because it needs a workaround.

I would suggest your best hope of getting something out of these groups is
to search for the Vstudio groups and locate the general or developers group,
posting what Sky replied there and asking if any of the programmers might
know of this problem.

I can't see why anyone would disable the Performance Counter libraries, but
an experienced developer might spot it right away. This seems to be
essentially a programming issue and while we do try to support people with
ordinary problems this is pretty specific and I don't know anybody better
qualified to answer than the guys in the Vstudio (Visual Studio is
Microsoft's Programming Suite) groups.

You said

WINDOWS XP, SERVICE PACK 2 AND LATEST UPDATES INSTALLED.

and I have cross posted this message there so if anyone comes up with
suggestions they can easily post back to both threads. May be easier for
your respondents though if you find the group yourself to read replies.

thank you Charlie!
Its nice to know not everybody is around just to wind u up, or go on some
power trip, because you happened to repsonse badly to one post asking you to
make sure its a Grade A in English in how its presented, very disappointed
with the events of today, until now :)
kind regards

Well we're posting to both threads and the last thing I want to do is annoy
anybody, but I honestly don't know the answer and if anything I visit the
VStudio groups to learn myself so I can't think of anyone more likely to
have run across this than one of the pro developers.

I assume you've tried all the usual stuff like rebooting, checking for
viruses and spyware etc. If not yet then perhaps you could try that while
awaiting an answer.

I meant no offense. However, public newsgroups are just that - public. You
take what you get. Remember that everyone in here is volunteering their own
time to try to help others, and you greatly increase the odds of your
getting useful help if you write clearly.

Well I think Chris's problem is aggravated by the fact that it involves some
bits of software that I can't imagine many people have ever heard about or
diagnosed problems with. I can't see why anyone would want to disable
performance counters globally, and I found no reference to registry entries
on MS, although there is a bit about usage and one code example. My
programming skill definitely don't go that far and I can;t think of anywhere
better than the developers groups to find someone who maybe does know
something :)

For you Chris I'd say that the level of diagnosis you got from Sky indicates
that it's either a fairly well known problem so it is documented for the
ordinary tech support guys or else you spoke with a programmer... any chance
you could get back with them if nobody here can help and ask them nicely if
they have any suggestion or ideas at all as to what software or kind of
software might do this?

I know some firewall software runs pretty low down in the system and
therefore might accidentally interfere with other things. Can you think of
anything you can temporarily shut down that might shed any light?

Hello,
I too am having the same problem. Sky just pass the problem over to
Microsoft. The 'help line person' was just quoting a stoke answer.

Sorry that I don't have an answer for you, guys, but you might try
asking in the newsgroup uk.telecom.broadband; there's a good few Sky
users and some very technically knowledgeable folk there.
