Size of .pst files

In an attempt to simplify an over complex system of .pst files I have
imported all files from 1 .pst file into another.

So far so good.

But the original file is still shown at its original size.

I seem to remember some action that I need to take to reduce the file size -
but of course can't remember or find it. The usual Microsoft remedy of
shutting down and rebooting hasn't worked

Any help would be appreciated.

Right click on the main folder file,
Select properties,
Select Advance,
and choose Compact Now.

Depending on the folder size, this could take a while, so do it only when
you have some time.
