re-sizing pst folders

One of my pst folders is over 1G, and I want to reduce the size in order to
copy it onto a 1G thumb drive. I have dragged the larger folders out of it
in O-2003 into other folders/pst. but when I go to look at the file size
using windows explorer it hasn't changed in size...and hence, I can't copy
it. When I do a folder size command within data file mgt it shows the
change! why don't they agree? how can i reduce the pst folder itself
otherwise?

They don't match because a pst-file is a database. Truncation only occurs
when a certain percentage of white space is reached and when the computer is
idle. To force it use the Compact Now button in the Advanced Properties for
that pst-file.
