Simple question from the uninformed!

I was prepared to download a free program to check on running processes. I
have an option to download a version for "using Process Explorer on 32-bit
NT/2K/XP/Server 2003" or one for "using Process Explorer on 64-bit
XP/Server 2003"

I am running Windows XP SP2 on my home machine. I am not networked with
anything other than the internet via my cable modem. I'm not a server, at
least that I know of. What choice should I use? Am I a 32-bit XP machine
or a 64-bit XP machine?

Thanks.

When I go to "System Information" and highlight "System Summary" there is a
listing in the right window that says "Item: System Directory Value:
C:\WINDOWS\system32 "
Is it trying to tell me I am a 32 bit XP machine. Machine is a pentium 4,
HP, 3.0 GHz with hyperthreading. Hard drive is a" 7200 RPM Ultra DMA hard
drive"

Thanks.

You have a 32-bit machine running a 32-bit operating system. You want
the 32-bit Process Explorer.

If you have to ask, you're almost certainly running the 32-bit
version of WinXP. I'm not trying to be facetious; I'm sure you'd have
noticed paying several thousand dollars more for the Itanium or Itanium
II CPU required to run the 64-bit version of WinXP Pro, or whether or
not you purchased a computer with an AMD Athlon64 or Intel EM64T CPU.
There are, of course, no 64-bit versions of WinXP Home, WinXP TabletPC,
or WinXP MCE.

Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Overview

To verify for yourself, Click Start > Run, type in "Winver" and
press <Enter>. If the resulting dialog box does not _explicitly_ state
that you have "Windows XP 64-Bit Edition" or "Windows XP Professional
x64 Edition," then you have a 32-bit OS.

Malke, how can you tell, based on what the OP posted? (Not that you're
not most likely correct.) There's a C:\Windows\System32 folder on
WinXPx64 systems, as well.

For the same reason as in your reply post to him - if he had an Itanium,
he'd know and if he had an AMD-64 and had installed the XP 64-bit OS,
he'd know.

Well, I'm glad the question was more interesting than I thought!
I don't know what itanium is nor do I have an AMD and winver doesn't say
anything about 64 bits. So, I'm going with 32 bit and thank you two for the
interesting info.
