64bit applications with XP

Ray

This may be a daft question, but!
I have a dual core motherboard capable of 64 bit processing, but I only have
XP Pro on the computer.
Can I run 64 bit applications within XP pro or do I need XP 64?
Thanks

No, you can't. You need the 64-bit version of Windows XP.

No, 64-bit applications need 64-bit libraries and those are not included
on 32-bit Windows. Furthermore, 64-bit applications are compiled to use
64-bit memory addresses and 32-bit operating systems cannot use this
addressing scheme. You need a 64-bit OS to run 64-bit applications.
