Silly Shutdown Problem

Hello,

I'm running XP Home SP1 with latest security updates (not SP2), AMD
2.08 GHz, 500MB Ram & FX5600XT.

The problem is that very occasionly XP will not close down, after
selecting Shutdown the screen fades as usual and then comes back to
the normal desktop.

At shutdown the only programs running are ZoneAlarm v5.5.530, AVG
v7.0.308, Copernic Desktop Search v1.5.

There always was a problem with various programs trying to shut down and
caused this type of a problem. It was supposed have been corrected with XP
but the only thing different is now it happens just occasionally, as you
said, rather than many times with older versions.

Instead of the normal shutdown I always use a shell shutdown that doesn't
cause the problem. Right click on open area and then 'new' and 'shortcut'.
Create it with "%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 01" and then click
this new shortcut to shutdown.

I just installed XP Pro. No other alpplications. The computer will not shut
down. it cycles back through and boots up again. How do I fix it without a
total format and re-install.
