Silly monitor problem

Hi all.

Very simple, stupid, basic problem I have with a multi-monitor setup on my
XP Pro SP2 laptop.

I've a 17" TFT plugged into the projector port to work as a second,
individual monitor.

However, it runs on 75Hz res rather than 60Hz res as the main laptop screen
does, and for some reason Windows won't remember the Hz settings after a
reboot. It used to - then i had to take the monitor off to move the laptop,
and since I reconnected it, it won't remember the settings.

Any idea why this might be?

Thanks.

This is usually a function of the laptop's video driver. Some video drivers
have an option to run an external display at a different resolution and
frequency than the internal LCD. If you don't see anything like that in your
video settings, your best bet is to visit your laptop manufacturer's website
and see if they have an updated video driver for your laptop model. Laptop
video cards, although based on chips by big-name companies like nVidia and
ATI, are at the mercy of the laptop manufacturer to provide drivers; there
are too many variations between manufacturers to allow nVidia/ATI to create
generic video drivers for mobile chips.

Yeah, thanks - but the resolution is offered by the card and it works when
selected - its just the PC forgets it every time it shuts down, so on every
boot I have to manually change the res on the second monitor.
