Setting monitor frequency right

Hi all

I am using Windows XP Pro on Intel 845GVSR motherboard and a LG StudioWorks
500N monitor (15''). The problem is that on a resolution of 1024x768 my
monitor only supports 60Hz and 77Hz frequency (refresh rate vertical). On
Linux I can set the monitor to 77Hz but on Windows I see only 75Hz and 60 Hz.
At 60Hz there is a lot of flicker and on 75Hz the monitor throws the towel
saying it cannot support the frequency. What can I do to make my monitor
support that resolution on Windows XP?

Thanks in anticipation and advance

The maker of the monitor might have been optimistic in stating that
it has a resolution of 1024 x 768 whilst operating at the higher
refresh rate. Perhaps when the monitor was new or in the test lab.
Try setting an intermediate frequency, such as 70-72 Hz, in the video
card.

If the monitor supports sending resolution info, over the VGA
cable, this program may display the available settings. See
if there is an actual EDID table displayed, which would prove
the monitor has a serial interface for the resolution info.

The report shows that my monitor does not support above 60Hz at 1024x768. But
I am still confused as to how on Linux can I get my monitor working at 70Hz.

Anyways. Thanks to both of you guys.

probably because the drivers for linux are not properly written and will allow you to over tax your monitor possible damaging it.
